Satellite telephone services are not permitted in India. People found in possession of unauthorized handsets of Thuraya, Irridium and other such satellite operators are liable to be prosecuted under section 6 of Indian wireless Act and Section 20 of Indian Telegraph act.
Tourists visiting India are advised not to use satellite telephone services unauthorizedly to avoid situation leading to the seizure of equipment, detention and prosecution.
