Passport, Consular, and Visa Services 1. GENERAL: (a) Your passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in your own custody or in the custody of a person duly authorized by you. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Indian Mission and to the local police. (b) PLEASE KEEP A PHOTOCOPY OF YOUR PASSPORT IN A SAFE PLACE. WITHOUT THESE DETAILS ISSUANCE OF A DUPLICATE PASSPORT MAYBE DELAYED. (c) It is an offence under the Passport Act 1967 to give false information in the Application. Passport facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of passport and for making unauthorized changes in the passports. (d) Your passport can be impounded or revoked by the Govt. of India under the provisions of the Passport Act 1967 in which event you will have to surrender the passport to the nearest Indian Passport authority. 2. TIMING: Applications for all passport/consulate services are accepted between 10:00a.m and 12:00p.m. The passport and other documents, irrespective of date or time of submission, are delivered only between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The High Commission observes a five days working week with Fridays and Sundays being closed days. Miscellaneous passport, consular and visa services are rendered at the High Commission. A brief description of the types of services are listed below. Passport Services a) Issue of new passport : The applicant may apply for a 10 years passport in lieu of expired passport. An application for a new passport can be made one year before the expiry of the old passport. An ordinary booklet or a jumbo booklet maybe issued as per option expressed. b) Issue of duplicate passports (in lieu of lost/damaged passports) : Such requests entail a more detailed procedure and a longer processing time period. c) Emergency certificates : A one way travel document which authorizes entry into India may issued to an Indian citizen whose passport has been lost, stolen or damaged. d) Change of name : Consequently on marriage/divorce name/surname maybe changed on an application. e) Change in date of birth: A primary requirement for an application to be processed is a copy of a court order issued by a judicial officer in India, not below the rank of a first class magistrate. Consular Services a) Sponsorship Affidavit : Maybe attested by the High Commission for those Indians desiring to sponsor a relative/ friend for stay in Brunei. b) General Power of Attorney : May be notarized/ authenticated by the High Commission, on application, after executant affixes signature in the presence of the consular officer. c) Registration of birth/death and issue of certificate : May be issued, on application with prescribed documents. d) Recruitment of manpower : All recruitment of unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled labour from India including amah require a contract of employment which must be duly attested by the High Commission before import of workers from India.
MINISTRY OF OVERSEAS INDIAN AFFAIRS Government of India Guidelines for ‘Tracing the Roots’ Programme 1. It is a programme designed by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, hereinafter called ‘Ministry’; to assist Persons of Indians origin in tracing their roots. 2. Persons of Indians origin desirous of tracing their roots in India would be required to fill up the prescribed application form and deposit it with the concerned Indian Mission/Post located in the country of their residence along with a fee of Rs 20,000/- (Rupees twenty thousand) in equivalent US dollar, Euro or any other foreign currency acceptable to the Indian Mission/Post. Any other useful information/document that could be helpful in tracing the roots may also be submitted with the application. 3. The Ministry would forward the application with all supporting documents to “Indiroots” with whom it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for this purpose. An amount of Rs 6,000/- (Rupees six thousand) as advance will also be paid to “Indiroots” as soon as possible. The details of the roots in India (where traceable) i.e. name of close surviving relatives, details of the place of origin of their forefathers (paternal and maternal side) and a possible family tree will be prepared by “Indiroots” and submitted to the Ministry approximately within a period of three months from the date of receipt of the application by it. 5. The information received from “Indiroots” including family tree prepared by it, would then be sent to the concerned Indian Mission/Post at the earliest for onward transmission to the applicant. 6. In case of any doubt about the genuineness of the ‘roots’, the decision of the Ministry, taken in consultation with the applicant and ‘Indiroots’ will be final and binding on ‘Indiroots’. 7. In case of a successful attempt, the balance of Rs 14,000/- (Rupees fourteen thousand) will be released by the Ministry to “Indiroots”. In case the attempt is not successful a further amount of only Rs 4,000/- (Rupees four thousand) will be released to “Indiroots’ and the Indian Mission/Post would be authorized to refund foreign currency equivalent to Rs 10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand) to the applicant at the official rate of exchange, as determined by the Government of India, applicable on the date of the refund. N. B. The programme provides for gathering of the information of the ancestors of the applicant and does not have any provision or arrangement for the visit of the applicant to his/her ancestral place(s). In case the applicant wishes to visit these places, the Ministry/Indiroots would facilitate such visits but the applicant would have to bear all related expenditure.
